Exciting, Innovative Mesothelioma Research at University of Hawaii Cancer Center
While mesothelioma is a difficult cancer to treat, exciting, innovative mesothelioma research is taking place in Hawaii. The University of Hawaii Cancer Center is an NCI-designated cancer facility; it is only one of 65 in our country. Recently, the UH Cancer Center joined in a consortium with Queen’s Medical Center, Hawaii Pacific Health and Kuakini Medical Center to become a comprehensive cancer center.
State of the art mesothelioma research is taking place at the UH Cancer Center under the leadership of Dr. Michele Carbone, a world famous mesothelioma researcher. Mesothelioma research is conducted in the UH Cancer Center’s Thoracic Oncology Program. Hawaii researchers collaborate with co-investigators at other institutions in America as well as in other countries. The UH Cancer Center receives over 50% of National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Health mesothelioma research funds.
