Mesothelioma Research in Hawai‘i

Exciting, Innovative Mesothelioma Research at University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center

While mesothelioma is a difficult cancer to treat, exciting, innovative mesothelioma research is taking place in Hawai‘i.  The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center is an NCI-designated cancer facility; it is only one of 65 in our country. Recently, the UH Cancer Center joined in a consortium with Queen’s Medical Center, Hawai‘i Pacific Health and Kuakini Medical Center to become a comprehensive cancer center.

State of the art mesothelioma research is taking place at the UH Cancer Center under the leadership of Dr. Michele Carbone, a world famous mesothelioma researcher. Mesothelioma research is conducted in the UH Cancer Center’s Thoracic Oncology Program. Hawai‘i researchers collaborate with co-investigators at other institutions in America as well as in other countries. The UH Cancer Center receives over 50% of National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Health mesothelioma research funds.

Mesothelioma Clinical Trials Offer the Best Hope for a Cure

Mesothelioma research conducted in clinical trials offers the best hope for finding a cure for mesothelioma.  By participating in a clinical trial, you or your loved one can have access to the latest and most promising treatment options. The standard of care in a clinical trial is usually superior because administration of various medications, procedures and tests are detailed in a written protocol. Find out how clinical trials work and how to go about participating in one.
