Hawai‘i Mesothelioma Lawyer Gary Galiher

In 1978, when our founder, Gary Galiher, was a young lawyer at a plaintiffs’ personal injury firm in Hawai‘i, a retired Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard retired electrician named Tristan Nobriga came to the firm with a disease called malignant mesothelioma. After doing some legal and medical research, Gary discovered that mesothelioma is a rare, devastating cancer of the lining of the lungs whose sole cause is exposure to asbestos. His legal research uncovered a seminal case law at the time, which stood for the proposition that a man in Nobriga’s situation has a cause of action against the asbestos manufacturers.

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Other Hawai‘i Job Sites of Asbestos Exposure

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard which was the hub of activity for U.S. Navy ships in World War II, the Korean conflict, and the Vietnam War had numerous ships and submarines coming in and out of port for extensive repair and overhaul. The exposure to asbestos by the civilian workers as well as the military personnel was tremendous. There are numerous other job sites in Hawai‘i where asbestos exposure occurred, causing mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases among the workforce over many years. The Galiher law firm has successfully handled asbestos cases that arose from these many sites.

Highly Successful Track Record of Handling Mesothelioma Cases in Hawai‘i

In 1982, the first mesothelioma case to be tried in the State of Hawai‘i was The Estate of Tristan Nobriga v. Raybestos Manhattan. The Galiher law firm represented the Nobriga family through the trial and made landmark Hawai‘i case law at the Hawai‘i Supreme Court. Other jury verdicts include the case of Lawrence Kaowili, $8.2 million; Kenneth Cain, $5.3 million, Warren Miyashiro, $9.8 million.

The Galiher law firm works tirelessly to obtain the best results for its clients in every case.
